Mindful Play
A Fortune 500 Company in Financial Services Industry
The Supplier Diversity Department approached InnovatorsBox® with a specific challenge. Her team of eight was already high-performing, but she felt like there was room for growth in their creative skills. Her team had varying work styles, personalities, communication styles, and home bases. How can she unlock their creativity, bring more fun to the office, and work effectively across time zones?
In December 2016, InnovatorsBox® conducted a full day Mindful Play workshop for a team of eight customized to address the client’s specific needs. The Mindful Play workshop focused on the specific challenge statement of how to be more creative and collaborative as a team and participants explored answers through interactive activities and exercises. In addition to working through the specific challenge, participants explored their creative problem solving skills through guided brainstorming sessions and SPARK cards.
At the end of the workshops, the participants felt confident in their creative skills as they incorporated new tools and techniques into their work. Communication, trust, and accountability within the team improved as they built deeper relationships based on understanding each other’s differences and meaningful interactions facilitated by SPARK cards. Overall, they experienced an increase in efficiency and effectiveness with decision-making and execution as they planned their strategic goals for the new year.
Two years later, the team is still allocating time to be creative, collaborating more, and utilizing SPARK cards in their meetings. They’re having more fun at work and the same high-performing team is even more exceptional as they balance their bandwidth and push out new initiatives.
In addition to these benefits, the staff learned the importance of emotional intelligence and creative thinking in their roles through the Mindful Play Workshop. The workshop helped the staff collaborate, network, learn about their colleagues, and move beyond their siloed work routines. It also helped them understand how they can serve their students better.
The introductory workshop helped the students learn the importance of networking and problem-solving in career development, and understand how it can help them navigate their career pursuits in a creative way. Overall, the workshops helped the participants gain an understanding on how they can be creative on their own, and in various environments and settings. As a result, the participants felt more empowered to take action in their professions, self-aware, confident, and excited about being creative.
